In 2023, the New England Journal of Medicine reported on a 22-year-old woman who took DIY abortion pills and went to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. The hospital thought that she was just experiencing the symptoms of taking the abortion pill. When she came back to the hospital 6 days later, her fallopian tube had burst and she had to have life saving surgery.
